Boulogne-sur-Mer Langues et Cultures is an examination centre for the TCF Integration, Residence and Nationality (IRN) and for the TCF General Public (TP). BMLC is also an examination centre for the Civic Test.
The TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) is the language test used by the French Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. It assesses the level and general skills in French of people whose mother tongue is not French. Boulogne-sur-Mer Langues et Cultures offers two versions of the TCF.
The Civic Test is a new measure introduced by the French government to assess candidates’ understanding of the fundamental principles that govern our society.
TCF Intégration Résidence et Nationalité (IRN) exam
The TCF IRN is designed for applicants for French nationality (level B2), as well as for applicants for French residence card (level B1). Demanded level must be reached for all 4 evaluated skills: oral and written comprehension, oral and written expression.
Delivered certificates are valid for two years after obtention.

TCF Tout Public (TP) exam
The TCF TP evaluates french skills for personal, academic or professional reasons.
This examination consists of three different parts:
- Mandatory tests: Written and oral expression, language skills and structure
- Optional additional test: oral expression
- Optional additional test: written expression

Civic Test
The Civic Test allows candidates to demonstrate their understanding of rights and duties, republican values, and the functioning of French institutions.
Test details:
- Format: A fully digital multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) to be completed on a computer.
- Duration: 45 minutes.
- Structure: 40 questions.
- Pass mark: A minimum of 32 correct answers is required to pass the exam.
- Validity: Permanent (no renewal required).
Depending on your administrative situation, you will take one of three dedicated MCQs. There are three different categories for the civic exam: “Multi-year residence permit“, “Residence permit“, or “Naturalisation“.
